The Posázaví Local Action Group works in an area of 99 local authorities which form the Posázaví region. For this region we fill the role of a service organisation arranging activities and co-ordination for the development of the Posázaví region. We have the legal personality of a non-profit-making organisation. We are, above all, patriots, enthusiasts, optimists and, to a marked degree, “freaks” fervent about the cause.
What does the existence of the organisation mean for the region?
Posázaví o.p.s non-profit-making organisation was established, in response to regional partners´ demands, as a platform for regional development and for improving the quality of co-operation among individual partners: business people, non-profit-making organisations, local authorities, associations of local authorities, towns, and government departments. Anyone can become an NPMO partner, even an individual, if he or she has the feeling that they can or want to influence regional development by their work, to introduce their own ideas and creativity to development. All partners receive a consultancy service from the NPMO during preparation of applications for funding from various funds and grants; the NPMO also instigates interconnection of individual projects into purposeful units. This very co-ordination is thus the most important at meetings. Our organisation will, therefore, in the final phase, bring the region more funds for development in various areas: from large investment projects, to financing and supporting activities of civic associations.
What kind of collaboration is there with local authorities and towns?
The quality of collaboration with partners from local authorities can be divided into four categories: active, observing, sleeping and indifferent. Those active became involved a long time ago: they have been introducing their own requirements into planning, they want as much finance and activity as possible for themselves and for their local region. Those observing watch our activities from a distance, waiting to see how it will all turn out - they map out any possible involvement. Those sleeping have not, in fact, even registered that something, which could possibly bring them finance and development, is being created around them. Under indifferent we imagine an authority which knows about our activity, but does not want to become involved. It stands on the outside with its own “strength”, and is not interested in any finance it could gain, with which it could enhance its budget and then use the funds saved elsewhere, where it is not possible to get any other resources. Some authorities or towns in this category might be discouraged because they have a minority share against the private sector – NPMOs and business community - in the decision-making process. They might be afraid of a loss of influence in the development of the region. Those active already know that only collaboration can bring them quality and, subsequently, finance too. And one more important piece of information: everyone has the same chance in the region, whether they have 100 or 16,000 inhabitants.
