Regional Museum in Jílové u Prahy
St. Joseph’s Adit is one of many underground workings found in the important part of the Jílové gold-bearing district – the vein zone of the Kocour valley. The older works of literature used to call it St. Joseph’s Adit. It is also drawn on one of the oldest preserved maps of the Jílové district dating back to 1730. We can thus assume that mining companies operating here in the 18th century made use of this old working which could date back as far as the pre-Hussite period (the 14th century was the greatest mining period with extensive mining activity).
